


We had the pleasure of working with a university that reached out to us as they were searching for a solution for their students. They wanted to enable their students to easily measure strain and gain hands-on experience with strain gauges. The university was looking for a solution that included the complete kit of ready to use strain gauges, allowing students to simply attach them to their chosen bending bars and measure the strain.
To address this need, we conducted research to determine the best approach and successfully created a custom solution. We developed a solution that involved attaching strain gauges to an aluminium bar, which were connected with lead wires to the aluminium plates. We quickly realised that an aluminium bar would be the best solution for this application. Aluminium was selected for its low modulus of elasticity, which allows for significant deformation under load, making it perfect for generating large and easily measurable resistance changes. Additionally, it is lightweight and cost-effective.
For the manufacture of the aluminium plates, we worked with a trusted and approved supplier. Simultaneously, we chose the type of strain gauges suitable for this application. Once the aluminium plates arrived, we were prepared to move on to the installation stage and once completed, they were ready for delivery. In total, we produced over 1,000 of these aluminium bars. We supplied the students with everything they needed to conduct a successful strain measurement. This meant that the only thing that the students had to do was attach the aluminium plates onto their choice of bending bars to test the strain, observe how strain gauges function and analyse the resulting data.
